Organized by Lu Wan District Government, Delegation of German Industry & Commerce and Shanghai Times Square, the 7th German Week will welcome its grand opening in the evening of October 9, 2008. Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany and Head of Lu Wan District Government will be present at this traditional event, which is also one part of Shanghai Tourism Festival. “Idea-Design-Innovation Highlights” is the theme of the unprecedented German Week this year, which is surely to be a spectacular German design feast. The visitors in Shanghai are surely to be fascinated and impressed by the power and the creativity of this event, which will present a different view of Germany besides those traditional advantages like “technology" and “industry".
First planned and carried out successfully in 2002, the German Week has become one of the traditional and popular activities of Shanghai Times Square in every autumn. For the past six years, German Week has achieved great success for both exhibitors as well as participants. In cooperation with tens of famous German companies, relevant organizations and individuals, the German Week this year from October 9 to 19 is going to showcase the excellence of German design and enhance the culture exchange. Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz Moto-Home, BMW and Minicooper will display their latest top-class models; KPM, one of the worldwide leading luxury brands of the finest porcelain “Made in Germany” will present its outstanding design masterpieces, even including some curios brought here from Germany; And Its craftsman will also perform superb painting skills on the scene; Glashutte will exhibit its limited-edition watches; Bosch, Siemens, Duravit with the creative design and advanced technology of daily-use and home appliance; as well as Rosenthal, SIEGER, FRRAS and etc., all of which will leave Shanghai citizens a deep impression of true innovative Germany. Meanwhile, Mr. Rolf A. Kluenter, the well-known German artist will present thirty-two pieces of his great works on 1/F Lobby of Shopping mall.
On the night of Oct. 9th, the grand opening ceremony is going to be held on the open piazza in front of Shanghai Times Square. Renowned NDR Brass Quintet will bring all honored guests a series of music masterpieces. What’s more, these five members of NDR Brass Quintet are also the members of NDR Symphony Orchestra, whom will perform two splendid concerts at Shanghai Oriental Arts Center in the evening of Oct. 10th and 11th. Furthermore, a wine tasting sponsored by Bremer Ratskeller, the world’s largest collection of fine German wine will be arranged. Dr. Oetker, the largest German Food Group will provide delicious German food. Splendid music, good wine and delicacy will lead the on-the-spot audience and the honored guests to stay for an unforgettable night of German Week.
The German Week this year also comprises several different splendid sections. Besides the design exhibition, the famous German artist Rolf A. Kluenter will have an Artistic Lectures on Oct. 15, 2008. And Jazz & Wine Night, which will be present by JZ Club and sponsored by Renowned Bremer Ratskeller will be also arranged on Oct. 17, 2008. Simultaneously, the shopping mall, together with the Shanghai main stream media “Shanghai Times” and Shanghai Photographer Association, will launch the first "Innovation Design" Photography Contest, which will take the site of the opening ceremony of German Week as the first phase.

Besides world well-known advanced technology and century-old brands, Germany is also known around the world for its imagination and creative wealth. The wording expresses a wealth of positive arguments associated with Germany both within Germany and abroad: nation of science and culture - the land of poets and thinkers, innovative products “made in Germany". Moreover, Shanghai Times Square not only has numerous international high-end brands but also is devoted to bringing the real international fashion lifestyle to everybody. The shopping mall has always paid much attention to the impact that innovation has on lifestyle of the intention, has fostered and held numerous relevant creation design events.
